My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Lady Knight is the last adventure we have of the lovely Keladry of Mindelan. Kel, our lastest female heroine in Tortall, begins her life as the first (known) lady knight in over a century. She battles her own dreams, and desires, in her first assignment during the war. The journey she takes leads her down her future path, and we learn more and more about the amazing Lady.
Do not read this one out of order. While you technically could figure it out, it all matters more if you have read the first three books. You have come to know many of the main characters and will therefore understand their actions, and love their growth within this novel. As for the new characters, you will come to love them (the good ones) and hate the bad ones. Kel manages to grow up even more in this novel, and I love what Pierce does with her character.
On that note, I must say that Pierce is correct when she says that she wants to write about strong girls/women who young girls today can look up to. Her characters, as well as the males, are wonderful examples, and I always love what they manage to do. Kel is determined to uphold her values, and the realms, but she has faults and she knows it. She also has some confidence issues, and that sadly rings true to so many – but even with those issues, she is a great leader and accomplishes her goals.
As always, I love Pierce’s writing style, how she sets up the story, and how the plot and everything flows within this book and overall in the quartet. I love seeing characters from her other novels in the rest of the series, because, well, it only makes sense when they take place in the same … place. I cannot wait for the book on Numair.
As always, I say READ, READ, READ all of her books. Really. GO NOW.
